Helping Little mOvO.

I met mOvO through my own personal mission of learning language.

A cute little bear with messages of self love and helping the planet. Recently, following other trends from similar companies with such characters Line Friends or KakaoTalk for example, Little mOvO has now appeared; A childlike version of the lovable Polar Bear.

The mOvO Factory contacted me to help them with their new range of messages, translating them from their Korean counterparts into understandable English versions of the same message. These messages are to encourage self-worth, development and a positive mindset in an ever increasing stressful World.

The team were insistent that they didn’t want to simply translate the copy from one language to another, but they wanted new relatable copy that’s suitable for an English audience… something they want to support their followers with.

After a discussion of how the copy was to sound like, we settled on a narrative approach often seen in childlike animations with an emphasis on not making it ‘baby talk’.

Each piece for Social media was discussed, sent over in a literal English translation from Korean as well as an open chat to get a better understanding of the content. Questions like “What are we trying to say?” or “Could you share your inspiration?” were worked thorough and simplified the process. Communication can be quite difficult when neither one of the team could communicate fluently in each other’s native language.

When presenting, I found it best to share my recommendation on the storyboards alongside the original briefed copy. It was then much easier to explain why I used certain terminology or phrases that are more familiar to those in English language, something that’s sometimes lost in translation.

Here’s how they look:

They turned out really cute. This content is posted in both Korean and English on a regular basis on The mOvO Factory Instagram channel.

I hope to help them out more in the future, so I will update this page with more content as it goes live.

Take Care

Kiki 🙂
